Day 5 fishing Report -Potholes Area - Lower Goose Lake - It started out as a cold morning with chilly winds blowing about 20. Momma was still cold from yesterday so we decided to get a later start than usual. We thought we might go try Lower Goose Lake although the walleye numbers are far from large and it's a tough fishery but we've learned a bit about how to fish in the past. We got on the water about 1:30 with less wind than elsewhere, temps around 60 and water temps around 53. We proceeded to try the usual of trolling Divers to search the lake with no results, then switched to bottom rigs with worms with no success and finally went with colored jig heads with crawlers and that finally did the trick. Our experience on Lower Goose is that Jigs outperform every other method by a lot. Finished a short day with 3.

Before 4 years ago, it was pretty decent, but then some folks discovered it and there were large bass and medium walleye corpses filleted out littering the shallows. It hasn't been nearly as good since.

Yea I know, I've caught a couple of BIG female walleye outta there but always let them go knowing it was such a sensitive fishery not able to support a lot of pressure. Unfortunately the Walleye have gotten rarer and as a result the perch and panfish have gotten a lot smaller and more abundant too. Used to be able to catch some decent sized perch out of there. I was even a little concerned about posting this report at all or being honest about where we went this day out.
