Well the Red Runner made it's 4th voyage on Saturday. Finally got a chance to get the wife out on the new boat. Launched at Porcupine Bay around 8:30, yep it's open. The launch was open with only one dock so 2 lanes, the campground was not open yet. The slide repair job looked pretty impressive. Hope that sandy hillside is as impressed as I was. Seems like once again I zigged when the fish zagged. Marcia landed a Burbot at Blue Creek but that was about the only action we had there. Tried further up river and finally got into some fish above buoy 5 but after boating 4 or 5 decent eaters in about 30 minutes the bite just died. Picked up a couple more but then it was time to go. Best part of the day was how much Marcia enjoyed the new boat. Worst part of the day was I still need to learn how to handle it around the dock. Way different than my old 16 ft

Mark: I see you aren't fishing out of the Tin Guppy anymore. What type of boat is the Red Runner? Has the rainbow fishery gone away like the Kokanee fishery has in Roosevelt? I hope to head out to Rife lake in a week or so for some landlocked cohos. Should be fun. Denny

Hey Denny,
I accidently wandered into the boat show this winter and stumbled out with a new Hewescraft Sea Runner 190 XT ST with a 150 Yamaha. Never saw it coming at all, craziest thing I have ever done. Told my son he better keep working because he will have to pay it off, I'll never live that long. So a 190 is just 3 feet longer than a 160 right? Hard to believe how much bigger this boat is. It was mainly about the live well and the ride. In any kind of ruff water the Guppy could beat you up pretty bad. The live well is just right there, built into the transom, so easy to use. I have done all the outfitting myself and have it pretty well dialed in. Mounted a Min Kota Terrova in the bow so now there are no more excuses as far as Walleye go, it's all on me. The bow mount is a real game changer. The Rainbows are still here just more dispersed than in the fall and this is supposed to be some of the best Walleye fishing now, or so I'm told, having a hard time proving it. Just have to keep practicing.

AWESOME Sounds like a sweet ride. I also bought another boat this winter, but I decided it wasn't"t big enough for the way I fish so I kept my Lund Renegade and sold the new boat. I was over your way last Monday at Conconully with my friend and his boat. We had a good day on Monday, but on Tuesday both of his motors quit so we had to come back home to get it figured out which we did. Both pick up tubes in both remote gas tanks fell off so it couldn't get gas to either motor. That's fishin sometimes. We had planned to fish Conconully for Kokanee for 3 days and then fish Sprague rainbows for two days, but that never worked out. Guess I will have to try Sprague again late this fall. Take care. Good fishing to you and your son wherever you go. Denny

Hadn't heard of Conconully until Tyler Hicks posted. Sounds like some place I need to try. Just back from the Thompson River in Montana. Did more laying around than fishing but caught plenty of Browns to eat.

"So a 190 is just 3 feet longer than a 160 right?" Um, no, Mark, your new SR is 21' 8" overall so almost 5 1/2' longer due to the extended transom. :-D

Hey, we splashed the ProV this morning, no fishing, but enjoyed a nice boat ride to Hunters and back. :-)

I can believe how much trouble I'm having at the dock, it handles like a battleship compared to the Guppy. The Guppy had a roller trailer and I just walked the boat up and cranked it on which was made easier the last year by an electric winch, talk about easy. Going to have to get the bumpers deployed for the Red Runner.
