Had to try one more weekend at Rufus to see of we could catch any more large fish before the spawn is over. We launched while it was still dark thinking we might be able to catch some eyes in the darkness before the sun came up. Nope, although trout were jumping all around us we didn't get out first walleye until after 0500. Granted it was a spawned out 8 lb. female, we expected a better early morning bite.

We ended up boating 13 eyes; we released four 4-8 lb. females (3 with eggs) and kept nine. All were caught on jigs near current seams and back eddies. A red jig head and motor oil swim bait produced the most fish. We finally caught some males; last weekend every fish was a female. The water temp was 52.5 and the spawn is still on based on the number of hens we caught still full of eggs.
