Spent a beautiful morning fishing at Alta Lake with my wife. The lake was very busy with over 8 powerboats and half dozen kayak anglers but we still found ample space to fish. Only two boats were fishing for trout and everyone else was taking advantage of the fantastic bass fishery at this lake. We made the morning interesting with a competition over who could get the biggest bass, loser would have to clean the bathrooms.
We primarily fished senkos but had a few fish grab on topwater early in the day. Color didn't seem to matter and the vast majority of the fish we caught fell in the lower end of the slot between 12-16". My wife won the day with a dandy 4 lb fish, her personal best. We also encountered a small stampeded of horses. Shortly after I encountered a couple of anglers who had a number of illegal sized bass in possession. I politely engaged them on the subject and I hope they did the right thing. With declining salmon, steelhead, and trout fisheries in the region interest and participation in bass fishing is growing but we need folks to adhere to the regulations if we are to maintain our quality bass fisheries.
