After reading some reports from other members, my husband, Glen and I decided to give lake Washington a try for kokanee. We fished the Moss bay area from 7:30 - 11:30 am. Action was best in the earlier hours and slowed down as the morning went on. Shortly after deploying his line, my husband caught a 12" kokanee. This was followed by another 12". My line starts dancing so I pop it off the downrigger clip and reel it in, only to find a 7-8ish" kokanee. Hmmm, not exactly the fish I hoped for. Glen then follows up with another 7-8ish" kokanee. I say "ish" because we did not remove them from the water to measure. Lake Washington regulations state kokanee must be 8" and we didn't want to handle them any more than we needed to. A short time later my line pops off the clip. After a nice fight, I netted a nice fat 15" kokanee. My husband was a little jealous so what does he do, turns around and catches a sockeye measuring around 22-23ish". Again, not removed from the water to measure. Any kokanee over 18" in Lake Washington is considered a sockeye and must be released. So after taking a quick picture while still in the net, off went the sockeye to live another day. I followed up with 19" cutthroat trout. He lands another 12" kokanee. After that, it just died down. He picked up another small kokanee that was released. After trolling for another 1/2 hour with no bites, we decided to pack it in. I reel in my line to find I have been dragging around a small kokanee who by now is quite dead. So in the boat it comes and it measures about 1/4" over 8". Whew, legally a keeper so in the cooler it goes. I felt really bad though, poor little guy. So I guess, my husband out fished me this time, but I do have to allow him to do that once in awhile so he will keep taking me out fishing. Tight lines!
