I had the privilege of taking Bob Schmidt, president of Mack's Lure and Justin Wolf from Angler West TV on a night fishing trip for kokanee at Loon Lake. The weather really cooperated with very little wind and 75 degrees when we met at the launch about 7:30 PM. Justin was filming our adventure for a future TV episode that will air in a couple of months.

We motored down to the South end of the lake (Granite Point) and anchored in the usual 32' of water before it got dark. I put out two floating lights on each side of the boat . I have recently added a new LED light on a pole that goes in a rod holder that slides into the Cisco track that is across the back of the boat. (By the way we have the Cisco Fishing Systems available for sale.) What a great high quality product! Now all we had to do was wait for the fish to show up!

The water was 67 degrees with no moon and scattered clouds. Justin and I utilized Mack's Cripplure Glow/Red Hot Head Rigged upside down with a 02326 Glo Red Hook maggot white attached to what was the upper end of the lure with a snap. About 4" of leader was used. Man does that setup glow when charged with a UV light. Bob was using a Sonic Baitfish 30021 1/4 oz. in Glow White rigged the same way. Both worked equally well. The poles we were using are the yellow fiberglass Eagle Claw 5' Feather Lite. The reels were spooled with yellow 8# braid with 3' of fluorocarbon leader. The jigs were attached with a #2 snap only (very important.)

I showed Bob and Justin how to bait the hook with three or four maggots and a piece of corn cured with Pro-Cure Wizzard in pink and Anise Krill oil. As it got dark we turned on the lights and sent the rigs to the bottom and reeled up one crank on the reel. It wasn't long before Bob discover what the tic. tic of the bite was and what corn thieves the kokanee are! It took a few tries but he finally hooked his first fish. Meanwhile Justin was getting all of the mayhem on film as the bite increased and I got into the action. It wasn't long before Justin rigged up an underwater camera on his pole to catch the under water action. I'll bet he got some great footage of the kokanee herd attacking his lure!

By 10 the sonar had kokanee stacked solid in the bottom 15' below the boat. It's hard to imagine how many must have been there. The bite was non-stop until we managed to get our 30 fish limit in the boat around 10:45 PM. What an epic evening was captured on film, can hardly wait to see the video!!
