We have been fishing the Cowlitz River targeting summer steelhead the first week of July and experiencing some moderate success. We have been mainly covering the area between the town of Toledo all the way up to ‘the wall’ at Blue Creek. The ‘kitchen sink’ method has proved to be the most successful, which is the age old technique of trying everything until something works haha! I would say though that these fish sure vary daily in what they are willing to bite; one day it’s bait only, the next beads only, and even spoons and spinners some days. I anticipate that the fishing should remain solid here well into August and I have some great open dates if anyone out there is interested in spending a day chasing these amazing fish!
