I had not been fishing since June 18th which is some kind of terrible record for me. I have been working on my overlander project. With that mostly sorted for the upcoming camping trips, I was able to get out last night for a couple of hours. I went to the home lake (only 10 min away) Devereaux. Got on the water at 6pm and fished the evening bite. Got off the water when the mosquito bite really started going. (bug spray is going in the tackle box!) Picked up 5 nice kokanee. Took a little bit to find what they wanted. The winning combination was the Arrowflash in silver and moon, with the white Kokanee NTO Scent Spinner and green beads with Shoepeg corn. 28 feet on the down rigger. I did get one on a Gold Arrowflash with the black kokanee NTO Scent Spinner and orange beads with the ProCure bloody tuna and garlic. That one was right on the surface as the sun was going down. Nice to be back on the water.

Here is the video of the trip. Enjoy!

I fished here for the first time yesterday. I have a fish hawk X2 and 28 ft seemed to be in the right temperature zone for Kokanee. However, the lake is small and gets shallow in a hurry. I seemed to get gunk on my lures even when staying over 30 FOW. What part of the lake do you have success with and what FOW do you troll in there? Thank you.

You are right it is shallowing much of the lake! All the kokanee action is out in the middle or on the edges of the deeper water. I usually don't even deploy my gear until I get in 35 FOW and then I run a circles staying that deep or deeper following the contours. If you look at BATHYMETRIC MAPS in the locations section on this website you will see the 30-40-50 lines. I follow those and usually troll N - S across those depths. There are a couple of corners in doing that that regularly produce fish. What I suspect is that the fish stay in the depth they want but on the edge of the shallows that are probably producing much of their food. Weeds grow up in the summer and that can sometimes limit where you can effectively troll. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for the advice. It is a very nice little lake if you want to catch kokanee without the big water. I will have to try again.

One more question if you don't mind, what's the earliest part of the year you start fishing here for Kokanee and what time of year will you stop? Thanks again.

You bet! Hope you do well and post up a report!

Sure. You can't start fishing there until the lake opens in April. As far as when I stop fishing there it usually has little to do with the fish. Sept. 1 is the opener of deer, then elk, then ducks. So from Sept. until the end of January I am hunting. February and March are remodel season and then back to fishing in April. :) Gotta love living in the NW! Thanks for the advice, I went there today and was able to get a few. Hope to improve next time! The ones I caught were on the smaller size, out of curiosity do the Kokanee ever get large there?

No they stay pretty small 8-10 inches. Glad you got some!
