My son and I were on the water at 7am. For my son it was the first time in the boat since his motorcycle accident. He got in and out, slowly, but doing well with the step stool.
He had bites right away and hooked them but had trouble getting them in. I got my first one in and found that it was small. Then we found that they were all on the small side. The larger (9-10 inches) ones had eggs.
After watching the video, I think, some were too small to even bite. Northern Tribe Outdoors asked me to film his lures which I put on the lower rod (I stack at 11 feet apart) on the downrigger.
The water was 72 degrees and it was supposed to get to 90 today. Around 8am the wind picked up and made trolling difficult. Most of the fish were between 30 and 40 feet down. My son’s second rod was long lined with about 1oz of weight which produced as well as the downriggers.
We just kept fishing but all we were getting was the small maybe 6 inch fish so we decided to quit about 10:30. Now that is when the challenge came. Trying to get my boat on the trailer. The wind was blowing it sideways. I got in the water to my thighs and my son had to get on the trailer and pull the boat on to the trailer. He didn’t know he could do that yet. He is still recovering from an open fracture of his femur and now has a rod in the bone almost from hip to knee.
I have never had that much trouble getting the boat on the trailer, ever.

Thanks for the report Toni. Sorry to hear about your son, hope he gets a full recovery! Glad you were able to get your boat back on the trailer, I've had a few of those windy days myself, and it's definitely not fun when you are all by yourself! I don't know what's happened to a lot of the koke lakes in Thurston county, they seem to have really gone down hill in the last few years. There used to be bigger and more fish in Summit, Clear, and American to name a few. Good to see that you at least were able to have some action even if they were smaller fish.
