The usual suspects returned to Crab Creek, the scene of their most recent crime. We were greeted by Chuck the Duck who followed our boat for nearly 30 minutes, rarely getting 5 feet away. Only when he nearly got snared by a fishing line being directed by a 22 “ walleye on the end of it did he quack off into the dunes.

We trolled 1/8 crappie jigs in 10-17 FOW, 0.6-1.2 mph. We had a fairly steady bite all morning long and boated 65 crappie and kept 19 between 12-14”. We had bonus walleye, perch, bluegill, bass, catfish and one large carp. Yellow jigs were most productive.

We ended our outing by pulling a boat off of a mostly submerged sand dune. It was the couples first outing at Potholes and they were unaware of dangers that lay below the surface in the dunes.

Another great day on the water with great friends!

Guess which fish won CF the first fish bet.

Chuck The Duck is an idiot and has a lot of idiot relatives. A light smack with a rod (not too heavy!) will send him on his way. I reckon a lot of this behavior is from well meaning folks feeding them bits of sammiches and French fries. DON"T feed the wildlife!

I agree that Chuck had learned that food magically appeared behind slow moving boats.

Funny, my dad and I had a mallard follow us around for hours the other day, even jumping into our boat repeatedly. Chased him away over and over, as he was chasing our casts.

Any particular color of jig work better? How much line did you let out on for the jigs? Did you see crappie rising in the evening and slurping bugs on the surface?
