I was joined by Downriggeral yesterday on a very chilly morning fishing from Vernita Bridge area in the Columbia. I finally got around to having DownriggerAl install an I-Troll precision speed controller on my kicker earlier this fall. I’ve used it this past month fishing Chinooks, and I love it. In addition to giving me the availability to make minute speed adjustments, it also gives me a reference point so I can repeat those speeds, and monitor the changes in the river current speeds. I find it to be a very beneficial tool.
Shortly after trying a second area yesterday morning Alan’s rod went off as we were back trolling the edge of the hole with super baits. This fish was a tank and held deep in the current. Due to a arm injury Alan had his work cut out for him with this fish. We finally got the brute landed. Turns out this king had a weak spot for a hot temale. Thirty minutes later we nailed my fish on the same bait and called it a day. Overall we had a very successful fall Chinook Season. Most of my guests were able to bring home their fish, and all of them got to enjoy the beauty this place has to offer.
