Launched out of Porcupine on a very cold morning. Headed over to the Lapham's area to fish a weed bed that had been producing fairly well. My buddy Jay caught a 16" eye on his first cast using a blade bait; I was throwing a jigging spoon. It was cold enough that we had to chip the ice from our eyelets. That turned out to be the only bite we could muster so we headed up to the buoy 1 area. We were casting jigs for walleyes; a black head with a 3.5 inch perch ripple tail swim bait was the most productive for me. We started casting shallow and working our jigs into deeper water. A lot of our bites came as or jigs went from 30-45 FOW.

We ended up moving around quite a bit and eventually found an area that was holding quite a few fish. Now most of those fish were not walleyes, they were burbot. I caught so many burbot my right forearm started to cramp; not that I'm complaining. The burbot were hitting anything that was green; most were spitting up 3-4 inch perch as we pulled them out of 60 FOW.

Our total catch for the day was 24 eyes (kept 8), 30 burbot (kept 0), 1 9-10 lb. trout and a dink smallie. The temps were nice and we had no wind; the boat driver, me, had an easy day and I could concentrate on fishing.
