My Family and I were blessed with an absolutely beautiful day at Roosevelt. My 5 year old picked out the spinner she wanted to fish, and it turns out she picked a good one. Right off the bat she tells me “daddy, I think there is a fish on this one”. She started cranking before I could verify it was actually a fish, and not the tippity tap tap from the bottom walker. She’s catching on, because it turned out to be our biggest walleye.
We fished around porcupine and found a few Walleye scattered about. 40 FOW was the shallowest water that produced for us, and we even caught fish at 80 and 100’. Im not a huge fan of slow death hooks. It could just be me, but I miss a lot of hits and go through a ton of worms using them. Yesterday, we only missed one bite on our spinners, which was good since the bite wasn’t hot and heavy. Having my family out with me on such a georgeous day made yesterday a 10 star day.
I am a big fan when it comes to getting kids out of doors and into nature. I’ve decided to continue with my kids fish free program for a second year in a row. Kids 15 and under fish for free on my boat when joined by a minimum of 2 adults. It was great last year watching several kids bring in their first fish.
