After seeing walleyeMark's last reports, I decided to try my hand at burbot... The launch was a balmy 23 degrees at about 6am, and thick fog... 26 mph with no windshield and 50' visibility made a Garmin gps fish finder convenient. Tried my typical January spot and found fish not too far away... Down from bouy 5 a ways. Tried some new gear, SavageGear 3d Gobi, on custom 1 oz rattle tube jigs... With some crawfish sent... Once I marked some fish deep, it didn't take long to get a bite. Two fish were female, so the spawn must not be too far off. The bite died down after the sun burnt off the fog about 9:15, moved around with noth much luck after that. Got enough for some poor man's lobster, so that's good enough...

Maybe if I'm lucky I can talk Mark into a boat ride to easy his tired forearms... learn from the master.

Here's some action!!

Hey, thanks for the good report, glad somebodies getting out there. Wish I could say my arm is getting worn out, that young man sure can catch fish.

Brent,
I still have to post a report but between Friday, Saturday, and Monday I caught at least 24 more burbot. In the last two weeks I have caught 48 burbot. I was not trying to catch burbot but I apparently I can't help myself. Over that same period my fishing buddies only caught 6 or 7. I think somebody put a burbot hex on me or something.
