Good morning everybody,
First things first. Kudoo's to Herefishy for for her kind words of motivation and Salmonbarry for lighting the fire under my fat @#$ to get off the couch and head to Lake Sammamish for another try. With the Hawk's game on at 530 and the perfect weather, why not? On the way out I stopped at Holiday Sports in Burlington for a few more pieces of artillary and ammunition for yesterdays offensive. The line hit the water by 11 am and within 30 minutes had my very first Sammamish 16" cutthroat. Downrigger at 18ft, 110ft back, to a chartuese dodger/fly with night crawler and pink maggots. I got one more on that set up but it was not a cutt and was wild so back with his troops he went. I tried two other combinatios. Flatline with 1oz of lead and 110ft back to pink dodger/wedding ring/worm/pink maggots and a flo orange dodger/Godstooth/worm/pink maggots. All three combos worked both with the down rigger and flatline. I tied to stay around 1.4 mph all afternoon. So long story short. Two pretty cutts in the boat, I released two others that were not cutts, lost two right at the boat, and a number of drive-by's. I would call it slow but plenty steady enough to keep you interested. One of these days I'll get some pics on here. Two things keep this report from 5 stars. The drive from Skagit County and Hollister coming up 1" short on the final play of the game.
P.S. WDFW was at the boat launch checking everybody for everything. Make sure you're playing by the rules
