Tucannon Trifecta Today! Had enough football TV yesterday so went fishing today. Did some catch and release trout fishing in the Wooten Rec. Area from the hatchey bridge down to the Tucannon Road near Spring lake. Took about 3.5 hours to work that stretch. Took my 9ft 6wt fly rod, used a floating line with fluorocarbon leader in 3x and weighted flies to get down quickly. Fished across and down wet fly swing style. Caught a half dozen beautiful rainbows 7-11" long, one ~10" dolly, and two 8-9" whitefish. No fish picks today, almost dropped my phone in the river on the first one and decided to be safe. You gotta go get them to see how pretty they are. This is what I call commando fishing, it is tough to get around the banks, everything has a thorn, and the bottom is still really slick. Tie or bring many flies as the brush will eat a few. Also the low water, about 90cfs, may get a couple caught on the bottom. If you don't get hung up on the bottom one in a while your not deep enough. I could feel tick, tick, tick of my fly then see a silver flash or white mouth and bam, game on. If I was in the water column above the bottom no hits. Even with some rain we're only at 90cfs, but the water temp was about 44 deg. so good for activating the trout feeding. The brown rubber leg stone took all the fish except one whitefish took a black beadhead stone on the dropper.

If you want some eating trout Spring, Blue, and Rainbow lake are open. I saw a lot of fish activity at Blue. 3 people at spring, no fish.

thanks for the details !!! have been thinking about getting the old 4-5wt Fischer fly rod out (not used in over 25yrs) and see if
there is any white meat trout left in WA and to enjoy a little solitude - getting tired of the combat routine, but then we do enjoy
the salmon and walleye - thanks again, hope to put the info to good use in a month or so - warmer then too.
