Beautiful day on the water. Sunny and 30 degrees. Water was calm and no wind to speak of. Prolly not the best conditions for Walleye. Only saw 3-4 other boats all day.
I’m a novice Walleye fisherman bent on learning jig and blade fishing. Put in at Fort Spokane about 8am and fished Casino Flats and around the point until 1:30pm. Tried gold, silver, and green blade baits...nothing. Switched to a black jig with brown grub tipped with night crawler and dragged it slow. Kept at it and caught 3 decent eater walleye and a nice trout. All caught in 40-50 FOW around 11am. They made me work but man it was fun to finally have some success.
Even got home in time to catch a little of the Game.

Scooter - Best way to learn is to keep at it. Casino flats can produce some nice fish this time of year. If you didn't try working the edge of the flat try that next time; both above and below the edge. A trout colored Norisada blade bait has worked well for me at Casino. Also to the right and upriver a half mile is outhouse flats that can also hold eyes this time of year; especially if there is current and with them slowly pulling down Roosevelt there should be current. Green pumpkin and chartreuse are some of the colors that can work really well out on the main river during the winter months; grubs, swim baits, senkos, and 4 inch worms all produce. Also try holding your rod tip high when you jig; that slow pendulum motion your bait takes on the way down can be a killer technique in this cold water.

Thanks for the tips and the encouragement! I’ll keep at it.

Thanks for the report, glad you got some. I too am a rookie Walleye fisherman. Haven't stuck with the blade baits long enough yet to produce a fish. Always fall back to a bottom bouncer after a half hour of trying to jig a blade. Need to hook a few on a blade and get some confidence in them. Stick with it you are off to a good start.

Yep, that’s me too. I’m determined to stick with the jugs and blades and figure it out. Sure is more fun to fight them with the lighter jigging rod. Good luck!
