While I am living in Texas I try to get out during the few months that aren't hot. I went hiking with a friend to the Lost Maples State park here which has a fishing pond that's in a canyon and higher elevation than most of Texas. Though it's not exactly a mountain lake the water is cool still and fairly clear, and they plant trout in the winter. We saw trout feeding and jumping most of the day but only managed to catch one- on ham if you can believe it. They weren't biting spoons, spinners, powerbait or a fly that I tried. We also caught several bluegills with the meat as well.
