Headed out Sunday to CDA with the kids for a few hours of fishing. The weather was rainy mostly but I decided to try my luck for some Chinook. We launched at the Mineral Ridge boat launch and headed toward arrow point. I ran two rods with helmeted herring. One with 1.5oz of weight and one with 1oz. My baits were about 100ft of the planers. Speed was 1.6-1.9 mph. I also ran two rods on downriggers with kokanee set ups. 45 minutes into our troll the herring rod with 1oz starts peeling off line. My son did a great job bringing the fish and as he got it closer to the boat I realized that I didn't bring the net. It was a little tricky but I was able to grab the fish by the tail and get it in the boat. It weighed 8.5 pounds and was a great looking fish. We headed home after our lucky fish and enjoyed a dinner of fresh salmon.
