Decided to avoid the crowd on the Spokane Arm and gave Rufus a try. I took my friend Jay with me and we launched at first light from Seaton's Grove. We tried several areas around the island and though the bite was slow we did manage to catch some eyes. The draw to Rufus is really the chance to catch some really nice size eyes. We did not catch any giants but we caught 17 eyes with most in the 19-25 inch range. All were caught on jigs in 2-30 FOW; this surprised us as we normally catch some of the bigger fish shallower, maybe the cold front that passed through forced the fish deeper. There was plenty of current out of Grand Coulee which meant a 1/2 oz, jig or larger was needed. The best color for us was a junebug grub. We also caught two slimers, Jay caught one on a drop shot and I caught the one pictured on a jig. The eyes on the table are no longer than 21 1/2 inches but they are studs. The one big difference between eyes from Rufus and Roosevelt is how much healthier the Rufus fish are. The eyes we let go were all in the 24-25 inch range and most were females still full of eggs.

Fishing was a bit slow but if if you target back eddies or current breaks there are fish to be caught.
