Decided to hit Lake WA on Friday. Got onto the water about 8:30am and slow rolled towards to the S end of Mercer Island. Put the FishHawk temp probe down to the bottom in 100 ft of water to get a reading. Water temp was 59 degrees on top and 52 at the bottom with a slight acceleration in temp change about 50ft down. Trolled the entire S end of Mercer Island with a dodger and a Gods Tooth 50/50 with a pink grub on the hook, nothing. After reaching the West end of Mercer I switched up to another dodger and a Macks cripplure. Once again nothing. After about 3 hours of not a single bite went to a wedding ring double whammy setup with a pink maggot on the hook. Trolled for 30 mins and nothing. Went back to let the downrigger down from 45 to 65 feet and wham, we had a winner. A nice 14" trout. Re-rigged and continued trolling between the S end of Seward Park and Mercer, nothing. Decided to troll the main S body of the lake towards Boeing. That's where fish #2 came. It was a nice healthy fat chunky 16'" trout. Fished for another 45 mins and got off the water at 3:30pm.
The fish were very scattered. There was practically nothing on the fish finder all day. Saw a couple of small schools of fish possible bait fish around 25ft a few times but they produced nothing at all. Fishing was slow but it was just nice to get back out there again. The weather was absolutely perfect.Be safe out there! -G
