Spent a much needed weekend away over at potholes state park and got some quality fishing time in with my dad and a couple close friends who were able to participate with the free fishing weekend. Fished both Friday and Saturday from early morning to mid afternoon and actually had the wind cooperate well enough to consistently troll. Fishing was most productive in front of the dunes all the way across and to our surprise never even had any takers along the Medicare side either day. Averaged about 1.5-1.7 mph at 15ft on the wire being most productive, had a handful of fish hit a flat line that was probably about ~10ft down on a 1oz lead weight. The most productive setup for the weekend was a 2.44 inch old goat lure in the perch pattern behind a Mack's DD dodger set 40-50ft back (also managed a few on a 1.8 inch pink OG1). We also caught quite a few on homemade double whammies with half gold beads and either black or chartruese beads and gold smile blades tipped with night crawlers about 15 inches behind DD dodgers as well. Overall between the two days we caught and released about 35 fish and lost another half dozen or so mostly between 14-16 inches with the largest being 19 inches. Although we didn't managed to hookup with any of the bigger 20+ inch fish, the fish we did catch we thick and were great fighters especially on the lighter Kokanee rods. Saw lots of other boats out that seemed to mainly be targeting walleye and bass and heard the walleye fishing was tough for most.
