Very hard for me-I'm usually a bait and hardware guy. Why would a fish eat a dandruff flake when there's a 3" injured baitfish nearby? So I meet my buddy--a dry fly type guy there Saturday and I choose a likely looking fly based on-um well-it just looked plausibly like food, and big enough to see and thread. Some 9" fish agreed with me within 5 minutes. For three more hours, I tried various flies, plus a hotshot, and spinners. Flies near the surface seem to be the ticket, with smaller caddis like patterns doing some damage. My buddy caught 5 times what I did and never let me close enough to see his lucky fly. But it was small and tan. Two days later I was back, experimenting. Tied into a 16-1/2 inch beauty-slender, but determined. That fly is now MY secret fly. Good lake.
