A friend and I hiked to Annette Lake to try for rainbows, getting to the lake about 1 pm on a cloudy, misty day. Fishing from the east side of the lake, we struck out initially from the shore, one of us with a silver/gold #0 Dick Nite and the other using a pink plastic worm under a bobber. Lots of fish rising all over the lake and chasing the spoon but not committing. I switched to a rainbow pattern rooster tail and immediately started getting hits. Once both of us switched to the rooster tail we ended up landing 6 beautifully hued rainbows ranging from about 6 to 8 inches in the next half hour of fishing before we had to pack it in. Brushy shorelines and shallow beaches with lots of logs make shore fishing difficult, so wading or a float tube/raft is highly recommended to increase your opportunities, though the cold water this time of year is something to respected if you plan on getting in.
