Decided to escape the insanity that is the 4th of July weekend by doing an overnight camping trip to Tiffany Lake. The road up to Tiffany Springs campground is absolutely gnarly in places especially the last 4 miles from Freezeout ridge to the campground and I'd only recommend 4WD high clearance vehicles. Its an easy hike from the trailhead to Tiffany Lake where we setup base camping mid-morning before continuing on up to Little Tiffany Lake another few miles past Tiffany Lake. It didn't take long to get into some great action of 12-16" long Westslope Cutthroats all of which looked very fat and healthy. Small silver and gold spoons worked best.

We retreated mid-afternoon back to camp to try and catch some Brook Trout for dinner. We had limited success as most of the trout seemed content to feed in the middle of the lake far beyond the reach of our ultralight gear but I managed to land a few Brookies for the frying pan to round out a wonderful campfire meal. The next morning I tried again for Brook Trout but failed to get anything but a few follows.

The bugs weren't bad and we still had frost along the lakeshore in the mornings. Trail condition is excellent with only a few downed logs. This is a great place to beat the heat and crowds and enjoy some alpine trout fishing.
