We hoped the cool and overcast weather would present a less crowded lake and such was the case. Saw only two other boats briefly and few walkers on the trails or a handful of swimmers/watersports. It was so peaceful.
We fished 11-6. It was rainy and overcast 2/3 of the day. Wind light and sometimes chilly but that's much better than hot. The clouds hanging on the hills made for a beautiful scene. The eagles and kingfishers were working and about 15 Canadian geese were around most of the time. The parents with goslings were fun. We also enjoyed lunch in the boat tethered to shore and watched three pumpkinseeds cleaning and monitoring their fish beds. The more you look, the more you see.
I caught the first rainbow on the trout troll. P. boated a 15" bass and I probably landed the smallest on the biggest lure. K. bought some weird large lures from a Facebook ad and was very disappointed when they came. He trolled one first thing but no takers and swore the lures were no good and a rip off. Late in the day I said, "Let me try those new lures." First throw I caught a bass. A while later I put on another one of a different color and caught another first-cast-bass, followed by another. I was so proud to show K I had caught fish on his weird lures that I slapped him upside the head swinging the fish his way as proof.
By the end of the day K had boated 10 bass, me 17 (1 trout, 16 bass) and P. won with 20 (1 pumpkinseed, 1 trout, 18 bass) . (If I'd been throwing small lures like them I would have caught the most to be sure.....LOL).
Wishing every day was a day on the lake.
