We hoped to avoid a crowded weekend day at the lake/Park so chose to fish on a Tuesday. Unfortunately the good weather gave everyone else the same idea. The crowds weren't too bad when we launched at 11am but by the time we returned to the boat ramp at 6pm it was crowded....on the lake and shoreline, ramp and parking.
Enjoyed our geese buddies and sunny weather. At times the lake was calm and other times a brisk breeze. Water was 71-72 degrees and about 73 air temp. We never found the big ones this trip, but nonetheless had a great day consistently catching and releasing. We started and ended the day trolling and in between plugged most all the shorelines and some center of lake humps. We all lost some fish and had a few mystery hits. Caught and released 60 in total. The body count was K. 7, P. 33 and me 20. I boated the only trout.
Returning to the boat ramp meant encountering tons of people. P. backs the boat so expertly and swiftly and K. helps tether the boat and wind it to the cradle after I motor it onto the trailer. We make a good team and are normally in and out of the ramp quicker than most folks. I think putting on a mask also means masking common sense for some people. It was disheartening when asking waders, swimmers, lawn chair foot-soakers and gawkers to please step off the ramp and stop swimming for a couple of minutes while we trailered the boat. A couple in a canoe seemed to have blinders on and nearly raced us to the ramp and also couldn't get through to the swimmers/waders. No one wanted to be patient. The disconnected attitudes almost put a damper on a wonderful day of fishing. But we try to be kind and remember we're all in this pandemic together.
Breaking routine due to all the strange things that happened at the ramp caused me to not sit the bail bucket with dry bag down so it road home on the boat seat, eventually getting jostled on it's side, open and hanging over the side all but spilling out contents travelling down the road. But all's well that ends well.
