Had a great morning on Lake WA chasing Kokanee and picked up a few bonus cutthroat. We fished the area north of the I-90 bridge and all the fish fell for BMCP's stuffed with tuna and baited with corn. The Kokanee were all caught with about 60' of wire out in 100' - 150' of water trolling at 1.2 - 1.4 mph.

The cutthroat we caught were all really deep, or at least a lot deeper than I had ever considered fishing for them before. I was marking fish at 125' in 140' of water so I decided to drop the gear down to see what happened. Pretty quick I hooked into a nice cutthroat, so my buddy sent his gear down deep and he also hooked up. We caught two more cutts at this depth, then the bite died as the fish seemed to have vanished from that area.

Does anyone actually target cutts at 120' in the lake, or was this just a fluke?

I was thinking about going fishing there , how do tell if they are kokanee or the incoming Sockeye salmon going up the River

If they are under 18" you can keep them. Over 18" and they are considered Sockeye, so you have to release them. It's a bummer as I have caught a few obvious Kokanee that were just over 18".

So for sure the cutthroat will follow the sockeye that deep and especially the searuns that come in with them through the locks! There aren't too many spots south of the I-90 get that deep but I do pick up both kokanee and cutthroat down there. We picked up a nice 20" on Sunday moving across from the west side of Mercer over to Seward park at 60' down about half way across the lake. Everyone has been stuffed with kokanee smolts so they are gorging themselves out there!

The cutthroat we were got down at 120' were all stuffed with 3" stickleback. I wonder if that's what they were after down there.

The bite is good in the afternoon, but the boat traffic makes it sloppy.

Nice size Cutthroat and Kokanee I wasn’t aware Lake Washington had such a good Kokanee fishery.
