I was camping at Alta Lake State Park for three nights with my wife and kid. Read on some forum that there were crawfish here. We brought multiple crawfish pots to use between us, homemade pillow traps with a 3x5 escape panel sewn in with rot cord which has been successful in several other lakes.

Unfortunately, I forgot to bring bait, so we had to catch a few fish to use their heads and carcasses. Luckily, I happened to have some basic trolling gear and a couple hoochie lures. Trolling at about 1 mph, we caught 6 kokanee and lost a few more before we could land them. Ranged in size, about 11-14 inches. Best combo was a Gibbs dog tail brass/silver dodger with a white hoochie lure on a 9" leader. Second best combo for us was a Dick Nite pink and chrome hothead dodger and a pink hoochie with a pink splatter spinner on a 7" leader. Fish at about 30 feet in 50-70 feet of water.

Back at camp, we filleted the fish for lunch and dinner, then loaded the crawfish pots up with the carcasses. Saved the eggs to brine for caviar. Dropped crawfish pots along multiple rocky sections at 20 feet depths. We were hopeful for a crawfish feast but when we returned the next morning, there were no crawfish in any of them! Just some worthless snails crawling all over my gear!
