I've been wanting to hit this lake for the past few years but fires and flu always seemed to squander my plans. Camping on the lake is no longer allowed due to risk of falling trees so we did a day hike in and out trip. Its about 3.5 miles to the lake. Our main goal was to catch Mackinaw (aka Lake Trout). Sidra had never caught one and the idea of targeting them from shore on ultralight gear sounded really fun to me.

As is usually the case Sidra quickly dialed them in while I struggled to get even one. I did catch several really nice Westslope Cutthroats. All the Macks were caught on black/yellow vibric roostertails and I caught the Cutties on spoons and spinners. A really fun lake to fish with a cool species twist. I highly recommend 4WD for the last 3 miles of the road up to the trailhead.
