I wanted to try Alta Lake for kokanee before the lake closed, so I headed there by myself. I launched around 9am and started marking fish very soon after getting past the no-wake buoys, and I caught three nice kokanee rather quickly. But, as soon as the sun started shining on the water, the bite just died. By mid-afternoon I had caught 7 kokanee and caught and released at least 10 trout.

I had arranged to go fishing at Potholes with three buddies the next day, but the forecast was for high winds, so we changed our plans to hit Alta one last time. We hit the water a little later in the morning, around 10am, and the kokanee bite was a bit tougher - we only landed 5 kokanee total. Some of that was due to a front that moved through and the wind really picked up from the south, causing whitecaps, so we had to tuck in the boat along the rock wall to ride it out. The wind shifted directions and blew through from the north for a while, but eventually it died down and the rest of the day was calm. We lost a lot of fishing time, though, and we only caught 5 kokanee, but caught over 30 trout, releasing most.

It was fun to get out on Alta Lake one last time, especially with no ski-boats or PWC on the water.
