A little tongue in cheek as I was originally fishing for perch but decided to try deep fried sand (ghost) shrimp as they are fairly easy to dig, and, I didn’t catch any perch, so why not get in touch with my 18% Asian side?
I pulled off the heads and squeezed out the guts after sprinkling with salt (makes them pee) and rinsing in fresh water.
I deep fried in vegetable oil (yes, I know there are better oils to use) and sprinkled on some salt to try the first ones. Tastes like shrimp! Next I did an egg and Panko dip.
Some friends showed up and they were game to try the ‘bait’. All agreed they were good and would eat them again. Scooooooore!
Next time I will do a flour and buttermilk coating with some garlic powder and cayenne pepper. Yes, there WILL be a next time!
