The "Old Goat" strikes again. Granted, this was opening day fishing for lowland lakes in Eastern Washington in a well stocked Park Lake. I've been coming here ever since I was 5 years old, so for about 40 years and 9 times out of ten, the fishing on opening weekend is a lot of catching. Great fun for the kiddos, but also a time to try out a few new lures. My brother-in-law and I have been testing out a new lure to us this winter and have been having some great success. We've fished Roosevelt for big rainbows and kokanee and Chelan for kokanee, and so far the Old Goat lure has out fished all of our other old standbys. Today, my brother and nephew decided to take the boat out and see what works. We put a 1.8 inch pink Old Goat on one rod, wedding rings, spinners, rapalas and everything else you can troll for trout on the other 3 rods. Pretty much everything caught at least a fish or two, but the one Old Goat lure caught 75% of the fish.
These are wonderful eating trout as they are planted in the summer and they grow up in the lake eating natural food. Most of the fish are over a pound and have beautiful pink meat. Can't think of a better way to spend a morning.
