Been a long time since I’ve been on this site and understand I’m not a great report writer but here we go...

Fished the upper Conconully Saturday May, 8th. Was primarily targeting just trout until we met an old timer who taught us how to fish for Kokanee there. He gave us some 1/2 oz weights and beads as well as a bag of corn.

Water level is very low with room for only one boat at the dock. You will be launching down off the boat ramp on the gravel at the end of the ramp. We started the afternoon around 3:00 down towards the East end of the lake. We made loops around the east end fishing water depths ranging from 80-115 feet deep. The winning combo was a 1/2 oz egg weight above a silver/red 4” sling blade dodger with a 14” leader with a red wedding ring with double hooks tipped with corn. (Probably were down around 15 feet below the surface). I tied the 2nd hook about 2-2.25” back from the first hook and most fish were hooked on the back one. We ended with 5 Kokanee and about a dozen rainbows between 7-11” but these Kokanee WOW! The wife whooped me catching 4 of the 5 and the 4 she caught were the 4 biggest Kokanee I’d ever seen in person! They just kept slightly increasing in size until the final one was near 17” and FAT! Marked a few Kokanee down 40-60 feet but without the downriggers we weren’t getting that deep. Trolling speed was about 1.5mph

First time we ever targeted them. Usually hear it’s less fish but the average size is bigger than a lot of places
