My friend J.P. and I headed down to the Columbia river for the first time out of the Nerka Nailer to see if we could catch some sturgeon on the opener. We headed out of the John day boat ramp and tried a few different places during the morning with no luck. We moved to a deeper hole right before the incoming tide started. One of the rods started to get some action. I told J.P. to grab it and set the hook. The battle was on and we landed a nice sturgeon. Unfortunately it was an inch short so we released it back to the wild. Im looking forward to going back next week in hopes for more action and maybe a slot limit fish. Tight lines!
