With the start of Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to find a place that I would not have to deal with the water hooligans that spawn on this weekend every year, and with the motor restrictions on Lake Sixteen, I new I wouldn't have to deal with a fleet of Mastercraft's and Jet Ski's.

I met Russ Elgin of Elgin Fishing at the launch and began my day. A chilly start to the morning with the temp being 41 degrees. To start the morning, I got an almost immediate take down that didn't stick, and a few minutes later one that did on a pink Elgin Fishing God's Tooth spoon set to slow action at 5ft. That was encouraging! Quickly though I wound up in a lull, started changing gear and depths looking for the magic combo. The water was fairly murky, so I decided to go with a dodger and 14 inches of leader to a 50/50 gold God's Tooth set up kokanee style. I think the extra flash helped as I quickly started getting into fish. I also found that the fish seemed to want a slower trolling speed, about 1.0-1.2mph. For the morning I landed about 15 fish, and had numerous drive-bye's. All fish were caught with Elgin Fishing God's Tooth spoons, the majority coming on the kokanee rigs 16 inches behind a Mack's Double D and Sling Blade dodger. Fish we caught with pink, silver shiner, 50/50 blue and 50/50 gold patterns, and all caught at 5 feet down.

Fun little lake that gives you the feel of being pretty isolated yet you are actually only a few miles east of !-5.

Video shows most of the action from the morning.
