I caught my first salmon at Point No Point back in the 90's (also cabezon that was easily 15 lbs). It was a King. Someone at the beach took my pic and sent me a copy. I have not fished PNP for almost 20 years. I hit the beach before sunrise for my adventure. Plenty of people already fishing. Many boats fishing the rips since it was an outgoing with low around 8:30 AM. I watch nets fly and people hook up from shore. I caught a dinker about 12” within a few minutes. Caught a few other small ones but no keepers.
It was a mellow combat fishing scene on shore. I’ve experiences much worse at PNP. It was nice seeing more people fishing the fly compared to 20 years ago. I typically do not fly fish there due to the number of people.
I must say there were a couple boats that were jerks. They were coming in so close to shore that I cast past them a few times. I could have picked off anyone of the people in the boat if desired. As a boater, I respect the shore anglers since the area they can fish is extremely limited. In my boat, I have many options! Please people, respect the shore anglers and give them some room.
Overall, it was a great day. The smoke created a pretty cool sunrise and the breeze was perfect. I was going to go back and fish the rips with the boat for King but since area 9 closes today, I think area 10 will be my target ??
