Wanted to test my new downriggers before a big trip to Chelan/Alta this weekend so I went out to Sammamish to try deep for some Cutts. Buzzed up to the north end of the lake, where I've had the most success recently, and was greeted with a TON of marks on the fish finder. Pink flasher and hoochie with garlic scented corn at 45' on the downrigger worked well for a bit, sporadic action. Fish were in 50'-65' of water. Only issue was jet skiers that seemed to want to buzz all around me no matter where I went...they probably thought I was rude for not waving back.

As it warmed up a bit they moved a little south and deeper on me, 65-75' of water. Switched to a blue flasher and went through a couple different hoochie colors down to 50'-55' on the downrigger. Color didn't seem to matter. Tipped one hook with corn and one with part of a nightcrawler, this seemed to attract the cutthroat best.

No pics of the cutts but I did get one nice 18" fish, my biggest so far. Also had a pink bycatch and a really nice rainbow, also my biggest to date. Overall just an awesome day!

You caught a pink in Lake Sammamish? Looks like a picture of a Kokanee and a Cutthroat

Oh wow, I knew there were kokes in there but that thing was like 22” so I just assumed it was a pink and released it. Sammamish does get saltwater salmon run though, right?

pickardjw, I fish Sammamish every week for cutthroat. I am happy to report that in the last 3 weeks, Kokanee have been caught and released. It is a good sign for the lake to be seeing them showing up again. It used to be only every now and then. The cutthroat and kokanee are feeding on perch smolts. I found a HUGE bait ball and then it was Fish-ON! The kokanee have all been ~20-24" and ferocious fighters!
