Fireman Bob had a day to get out, so we hit the north end of the lake about 7:30. One other trailer at launch. Did some slow motoring around looking for marks and splashers. Fortunately we were in the right place/ right time warp as we started picking up marks and saw quite a few pods of silvers splashing and porpoising around. That's half the battle, right?
So we proceeded to drop some gear down and see if any of the silvers had their tetanus shots preventing the proverbial lock jaw syndrome. Started out with spoon/ flasher on one rod and squid flasher on another. Maybe an hour in, the spoon rod snaps up and fish on. Small buck who didn't realize he was hooked until he got close to the boat. He should have known he was hooked though, as he inhaled the spoon. Way back in his mouth. In the net, in the boat, and welcome to the club.
Switched out the squid rod for another spoon set up and away we went again. Stayed primarily in the same area as the splashers were frequent. Note: They were definitely relating to contours and structure as a hint. Drug the gear around for another hour or so and had another bite. Didn't pop rigger, but was bobbing the rod good. Grabbed the rod, set it salmon hard, and away it went. Passed off rod to Bob and he did a real nice job bringing her in, despite her best efforts to throw the hook. Slid her into the net and welcomed her to the party. About a 7lb hen. In the pic, notice the close call she must have had at the locks with I'm guessing a seal! Fresh scar by her tail.
Picture shows the gear that was producing this day. Some stink was added too. No other salmon bites, but did C&R a nice cutt and a dumb ass perch of all things.
Had to be off the water by noon to attend to some other appointments. We both agreed that it was a pretty good day for freshwater salmon fishing. Not lights out but pretty damn good.
Hoping to get out again and also to Sammamish when it opens. Wife had a piece of one fillet last night, and said it was delicious.
