My son Bo and I started fishing at 10am. After launching at Point Defiance we went toward the dock trying to find schools. We located the bullheads, flounders, sand dabs, soles, and an octopus. The squid were hard to find.
We couldn’t go far because we were very close to being out of gas. We forgot to check before coming.

Bo drove trying to find the squid on the fish finder. Then I drove and found a likely sign on the fish finder. He caught the first one after 2.5 hours of fishing.

We moved over by the slag pile and Point Ruston. I found a nice reading on the fish finder and he dropped down. He always gets out down/faster than I do. He came up with a squid before I got to the bottom. I got a double. He got a double. After that I could not get anything but a ratfish. He kept coming up with squid or flatfish.

After we had been there a while, I heard a helicopter flying low and it did one pass came back dropping smoke bombs on the people having a party (loud music) at what I think was a restaurant. My son said “gender reveal” since they were pink. Pretty cool.

I did provide some comic relief when the automatic life jacket deployed.

We ended the day about 2pm with 19 total squid. I got 2.

We fished mainly 60-90 feet of water. But looked in 50 and up to 130 feet.

The water was pretty smooth. The sky mostly cloudy with a slight breeze which made it chilly. A good day to be out. High tide was 6:25AM at 12.1 feet; low tide 11:45AM 7.5 feet; high tide 4:24PM 10.8 feet.
We did not find schools of squid like in 2020.

Thanks Tony. I went to the same area well after dark, until the wee hours......a week ago and yesterday. Found schools just off of slag pile too. Most of the time it was slow, from Les Davis to Point Defiance. Only found big schools around 70 fow just off slag pile. All the other schools I thought I saw... were fish. Caught rockfish in shallower. Pretty much the same as you experienced. Clear water was difficult to find in all this muddy flood water.
