I could give Monday a Five but we didn't catch any Kokanee, other than that it was a real fun day and we got some nice Rainbows. It started out pretty slow and we weren't getting many hits and then around noon the sun started to break through and we had 2 doubles and a triple. Landed a really strong wild fish that was safely released, kept 2 limits and missed 2 fish. Most of the fish were 18 inches and nice and thick, quite a change from my November trip when we got our limits but they were mostly 15-16 inch fish and we released a bunch of wild ones. The launch was in really good shape with no ice and plenty of gravel. Was able to launch and recover in 2 wheel drive.
Also fished Saturday 1/8 at Porcupine and it was a completely different story. It was so slick that the truck and the boat were sliding sideways as I pulled in to get ready to launch. I would not have launched but I had sand and 4 tire chains so figured I could make it work. It was 15 degrees when we launched but sunny and not uncomfortable really. On the water if we were in a quite area with no breeze we could watch the ice forming on the water. The water seemed kind of dirty and we only got one hit all day and missed that one. When we recovered the boat we had to put sand down in 3 different spots before we left. Really needed traction devices on our boots. Not a safe place to be. So 2 days out of 3 on the water in January. Good enough for me.
Stay after them, one day you get em, one day you don't. So it goes.
