That walleye was actually a little skinny but it was trying to rectify that situation

I need to pick all of your walleye brains. I’m horrible at catching them. Do well on other species but really struggle with eyes.

Ditto yakhusker's comments. Do you find any corelation between moon phase and walley bite?

Yak & Bo. I don't like fishing around the full moon on Roosevelt because of the clear water. I think the eyes feed at night which makes it tougher during the day. I am hesitant to fish at night because of all the wood that floats around. I have hit submerged trees, firewood and 2×4s during the day so driving around at night could get expensive and dangerous.

I've been fishing the Arm with my buddies for going on 18 years. We really pay attention to the water level and time of year. They both drive where we go. We do a lot more jigging during winter and spring. We fish classic walleye areas and pay particular attention to current. The more current the better. And with the water level dropping it is going to concentrate the eyes in certain areas. Look for eddies and turns in the main river channel. The eyes in the Arm feed mainly on perch and further upriver crayfish. Use soft plastics that look like those two; grubs, swimbaits, and senkos in green and avocado with red,/gold flakes are some of my most productive. Blade baits, jigging raps and casting spoons also produce. They are a lot more work but can really catch eyes. You just have to be willing to give them a try. I probably won't do any trolling until about June unless its pulling husky jerks or deep diving tail dancers up the main river channel once the water drops further. I am looking forward to the next couple of months because this is going to be prime time on the Arm. Rufus woods can also be a great place for big picture taking eyes. By June China Bend should be the place to go if you want a chance to catch a 100 eyes. They may not all be keepers but they are a lot of fun.

Take, yes it does. You have to check the Lake Roosevelt website for the levels at which you can no longer launch at Porcupine Bay but I think it's 1247. The next closest launch is Ft Spokane. I try to help others by explaining what usually works for me. I won't get to specific on some of my most productive spots because they are only large enough for one boat to occupy. There are probably many more places that produce but most people don't like to share where they have success.
