Hit up the Touchet again on Monday in the rain. Wanted to get out before the river flows increased from the coming rain and eventual spring runoff. I was targeting trout using size 14 prince nymphs, size 16 green copper johns, and a few other nymphs under a strike indicator and some weight to get my tippet down faster. Didn't hook any trout, although I did hook into what looked like two steelhead bucks, but both threw my hooks. Steelhead are closed to fishing for, so no sweat off my back. Each time I hooked one, I moved to a different section to avoid hooking into more. Didn't want to bother them... After a few hours I drove up to the Wooten wildlife area to target trout in the C&R section of the Tucannon. It was pretty hard to find a section of water where I felt comfortable throwing my line out (lots of branches above me and a lot in the water) and I also didn't want to wade through the flows, some of it looked a bit swift for my liking. No fish this time and probs won't get back out until the spring opener in late May, the Touchet is flowing 2x as much as it was when I was out already and as it warms up I anticipate it won't get any better for a while.
