My son was going to come at 9 after he had gone to the gym. I thought I might not get to go because I had a pinched nerve in my back that caused my leg to hurt. But I was better on this morning so I was going. He changed his mind and showed up early so he went to the lake while I got ready and I joined him later. He fished from 8:30am - 1pm. I fished from 10am to 1pm.
We encountered, through the morning, sun, rain, and hail. The wind blew at times, too.
My son had two rainbow trout already. I was surprised at the size of them as recent plants.
We started by the launch and as always, he gets the first hit but loses it. It took a while before I got my first in. Then it caught me. I had a trailing treble hook. The fish had the first hook in its mouth and somehow the net was involved then the treble stuck its barb into the flesh between my thumb and forefinger. I was yelling in pain. My son got the pliers to unhook the fish then unhook me. Note to self; change out lure if human blood is on it. The fish would see the lure, get behind it, then leave until much later. Probably after the smell was gone.
We didn’t see a lot of fish on the fish finder but the one school was that of perch. I have never seen a school of perch in this lake before.
We left with 9 trout. They measured 12 to 14 inches with some girth being 4 inches. Our speed was 1.2-1.3 mph. Mostly the depth we fished at was 10-20 feet but did have a range of 7-30 feet. My son longlined one line with about a ¼ oz. weight. Bait we used was corn and worms. I did use Berkley maggots but not many bites on them. The water temperature was 53.
