Fished both Tuesday and Wednesday from about 6am to 1pm. Caught 10+ kokanee each day - nice pan sized ones. Usually I struggle with kokanee and have much more success with trout. But this time I did not get a single trout. I had high hopes for large trouts that this lake is known for. Anyone have any knowledge why I skunked on trout?
Kokanee were all caught flat lining - water temp was perfect for that. I caught maybe a couple with downrigger but gave up on it once I saw how well flat lining was working. I tried hooochies and wedding rings. Second day I tried plugs and Rapala of different sizes hoping for trouts. Both parts of the lake were productive but the part by the boy scout camp was the most productive. Kokanee were jumping all over. Most fish were caught at 20-40 fow.
Lake was really high and the actual forest service launch was submerged. I was fine launching my 12 foot boat but bigger boats would have had trouble.

Nice work on the kokes! I'll be at Bonaparte next week. Trout fishing may have been slow since it's been such a cold and wet spring. I'm hoping the trout fishing will pick up by then, but if not, I'm happy to catch kokanee. They do make a first-rate feast.

Thanks! Please post a report after your trip. I'm curious to know if the trout bite picks up.
