Beat the heat on Saturday out on the water and managed to catch a couple kings as a bonus, one had to go back with too many fins, but the big one was a keeper! It was a battle to keep the lines in the water fishing with the giant pieces of the red seaweed that kept popping the lines off the downriggers. Got the first fish on about 8:30, got it to the boat, but saw the intact adipose, luckily it released itself in the net and off it swam. That one was caught with a Coho killer, about 85' on the line in 90-95' of water. Tide started running harder and it was difficult to keep fishing with the current and a few boats not paying attention, we got pushed up towards the rocks and lost a downrigger ball. I was about to pull gear and go somewhere else, but the quick check on the Navionics showed the current was running harder up at Lawrence point, and should be slowing here, so I decided to stick it out. A few minutes later we see a boat hook up, but release the fish, then another caught and released. Bite is on at the tide change, we come around for the next pass and I see the rod bouncing. My buddy grabs the pole and the fight ensues, this guy did not want to budge, but we finally work it to the boat, confirm no extra fins and the decks are bloody. Ace high in Army truck with herring strip did the trick. Trolled around for another couple hours, but there was no more action. Off to check the crab pots, full of crabs, sorted out the 10 biggest and back to the dock. Fish checker had us tied for the biggest fish of the day at 75cm (29.5"), weighed about 14 pounds.
