Been a couple weeks since my last outting. Hit up a point I haven't touched this year yet. I was working my way towards it with a swimbait along the shores. Got out deeper and switched to dropshot.
Caught 2 largies off this point with biggest being 2.71#. The other was just a hair under 2#.
Figure I'll hit up another point. Nothing but perch. Move to the other side of the lake and more perch. Mix of crankbait, swimbait and dropshot. Saw another boat up ahead so I cross the lake again.
Cast the dropshot out in about 20' of water. Felt the weight and set the hook. Fish on! I can already tell it's a good fish, at least a 3# because it won't show itself. As I'm getting it closer to the boat, still with no color, it starts ripping drag so now I'm thinking 4+! Felt like forever and it surfaces enough for me to see and it's a tank of a smallie! I keep pressure and try to prevent it from jumping. I get it at boat side and it does a jump and I saw my bait go flying. For a split sec there, my heart skipped a beat because I thought it threw the hook. Scoop his bad boy or girl into the net. 4.82#. Nice.
This area produced a total of 5 smallies in short order. All quality at least 2#.
The weather was kind of crappy. Felt like fall. So wasn't out for long but happy with the results.
All bass caught on dropshot today.
