I went down to Black lake this morning. Trying for trout, at this time last year I saw plenty of trout jumping in the morning including some whoppers. Today I only saw one or two fish take bugs the whole morning and didn't see a trout all day. I tried trolling spinners and spoons as well as dropshotting. I didn't see any fish for the first hour or two, then I pulled up to some reeds and found a bunch of baby sunfish. Appears to be mostly bluegills but possibly green sunfish as well. I caught one baby fish that looked like a bass with red eyes, maybe a rock bass? I accidentally caught my first black lake crappie and coming back to the launch I caught a fiesty perch trolling a spoon! I took him home to eat, I hope I'm not hurting the breeding pool. That is the first perch I've ever seen in this lake. The best fish I saw was a big sunfish, probably 6-9 inches, but all the others were tiny. Maybe in a few years there will be some decent sunfish in this lake. For now the fish are small and hard to find, really not worth the bother.
