Taking a day off midweek is such a treat. Less traffic in the park and a day out of the office. We decided to fish 11-3 and the weather cooperated with a variety - no wind to about 10mph. It seemed to change frequently. Water temp in the main lake still 65 degrees, but the lagoon was up to 67. Not full sun which was great. No other boat fishermen and only a few watercraft.

Within minutes of the trout troll I had on a rainbow. The wind was pretty rough the first hour so we didn't make too many passes and instead sought shelter and decided to cast the shorelines. The bass were moving this week and we steadily caught and released. However, P & K were in the trees quite often, including one dead limb very high up. P was sure he'd lose his lure and I said, "No we can save it with the pokin' pole". So we got right up to the bank and extended the boat pole up and pulled the dead limb down within reach to save the lure. Down came the dead limb and bonked K. on the head nearly taking off his left ear. Two days later he was rubbing his ear wondering why it hurt when he remembered. LOL.

We have nicknames for all areas of the lake. One area we named "The linebackers' , (the same spot as about 5 years ago), we saw 4 huge bass swimming side by side like a line of football players. Danged if we didn't see them in the exact same spot. We spent a half hour throwing a variety of lures but couldn't get them to bite. Man that was frustrating.

I knew I hooked into the big fish of the day and put on my best manners saying, "Get the net, please. PLEASE get the net!" After a nice fight I boated a heavy large mouth and was sure I could claim the best fish of the day (as I promised I would.) But, noooooo. P had to show me up and in a most entertaining fashion. Once again he got into the trees and the line looped over and dropped into the water. He was grumbling but we all were saying, "Keep bobbing it, something might take it. That would be funny!" Some fish did start popping the lure bouncing on top of the water while wrapped over a limb. After 4-5 hits, suddenly a very big bass appeared and grabbed his lure. We all saw it and P started hollering, "I don't want to loose him!" We maneuvered the boat closer and somehow he got the line off the tree limb and darned if he didn't end up having K. net the bass....yes, the largest fish of the day at 16".

We decided to enjoy lunch tucked up against the dam. We had deli sandwiches from the store and enjoyed a respite from the wind. Soon we headed out of the lagoon and fished up the other side casting the shoreline. We each lost at least six hits a piece. Bites were plentiful even if we didn't always button up.

We noted the wind was still pretty strong on the main lake and even had to bump the motor to the next level to combat the waves and current. We enjoyed a bunch of hits on the trout troll to c;lose out the day. K. ended with a sore head and 3 trout, 2 bass, P with 8 (2 trout, 6 bass) and me with 23 (4 trout, 2 pumpkinseed, 17 bass.).
