I fished Green Lake from 6:00 pm to midnight. That's right, midnight. I have always wanted to night fish, and I finally did. Did it turn out really fruitful?? No it didn't. I didn't see anyone catching fish, though the bait and hardware crowd diligently worked away as usual.

What I did see was something that I've seen all season: Size 10 Chronomids coming off the water in mass at sundown. Even with the fact that the DFW stocks the hell out of this lake, I saw maybe 30 rises all night. One day after seeing this hatch, I went home and tied what I considered to be a good imitation. The fish do not agree..

As the sun went down, I shifted my focus to Green Lake's Large Mouth Bass population. I tied on this crazy leach I bought at Kauffman's; It's black and "double-jointed." You'll know it if you've seen it. I trolled up and down the lake, crossing and dividing it. Nothing. I finally pushed up to shore and lifted my rod to bring the leach to the surface. "Nip, Nip....BOOM." And right then and there, I had Green Lake's newest resident, the tiger muskie, on my line. The whole thing didn't last long though. He shook his head and those razor sharp teeth cut through my tippet like it was nothing. The excitement of this one and only incident provided enough fuel to keep me out in the tube for at least 3 hours. That's the funny thing with fishing--you know when the situation is at a loss, but you will keep casting for hours and the one time in 30 that your persistence pays off, it only gives the fisherman reason to stay longer than he would have before.
